Myths and Truths of Search Engine Optimization
This panel is aimed to help local business owners, brand managers,
Internet Marketers and agencies educate themselves on how to best
create an SEO campaign for their organization and their clients.
Renee Menkova will moderate a round robin style panel, with four unique speakers all with
varying styles of SEO who have helped increase rankings and bottom line
numbers for their own clients and businesses including Dan Kinchen,
Janel Landis, Nathan Thompson and Dennis Miller.
Learn about some of the myths of SEO, best practices and how to make
sure you are getting the value for the money you are spending. Hear the
panelists answer questions such as how much should good SEO cost, what
are the future trends of SEO and what will be the impact of new changes
to SEO results such as Google recently placing relevant search terms at
the bottom of search results.

About the Speakers
Dan Kinchen
Dan Kinchen has been providing web services since 1997 and is
currently managing his company, Search Engine Techs out of Lake Mary, Florida.
Dan Kinchen's expertise lies in Internet Marketing focusing on Search Engine
Optimization and Pay Per Click marketing. Dan Kinchen is both business and
technical organizations such as; Seminole County Chamber of Commerce;
Leadership Seminole Alumni; Seminole County Advisory Board Council (serves on 2
small business boards); doterati (founding member). Dan Kinchen also provides
two free community service events; SEO Lunch (free monthly internet marketing
seminar for small business) and Ignite Orlando (free networking event for
people passionate about internet technology).
Janel Landis
During her tenure at SendTec, Janel has held various
strategy-driven positions allowing her to grow the agency’s business and Search
division’s reach by more than 500 percent. As the Agency’s VP of Search
Marketing, Janel has facilitated the growth of her client’s customer base and
overall profitability through her extensive knowledge of search engines, her
innate strategic vision and her deep appreciation for user behavior. Widely
recognized as an industry leader, she frequently speaks at Media Post events
and Search Engine Strategies conferences. Janel shares her industry insights in
her regular Search Insider column, as well as her contributing articles to publications
such as iMedia Connection, EM+C, DM News and Multichannel Merchant. An avid
SEMPO member, Janel is a member of the Emerging Technologies Committee,
constantly monitoring the pulse of the industry and its numerous nuances. Her
insight is valued by many, as she is often quoted as the topical expert in
publications including the Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily and
Forbes.com.
Dennis H.J. Miller
Dennis H.J. Miller is .Com Marketing's search marketing & optimization specialist. He brings several years of Search
Engine Optimization, Search Engine Marketing, ad creation, &
campaign management experience to the role. Prior
to joining the .Com Marketing team, Dennis worked as an Internet
Marketing Analyst for a Fortune 500 wholesale travel company; where he
systematically analyzed dozens of online and offline marketing
campaign. Dennis implemented several creative solutions that resulted
in a 400% increase in ROI on pre-existing Pay per Click campaigns and a
1200% ROI on new Pay per Click campaigns. In addition to his daily duties, Dennis attempts to optimize everything
in his life from buying the most efficient compact florescent lights
bulbs, to changing his driving habits to get the best possible gas
mileage.
Nathan Thompson
Nathan Thompson, self-proclaimed "regular guy" and fan of the
Internet, is a classically trained spin doctor, with a B.S. in Public Relations
and Entrepreneurship from the University of Florida. As Director of Online
Sales for venture-backed Internet music startup Grooveshark.com, Nathan lived
the quintessential Web 2.0 lifestyle, living in his office (literally),
traveling to dozens of Web conferences and spreading the joys of company-funded
business development to all who would listen. Nathan now embraces his own inner
entrepreneur as managing partner for Web consulting company Crossing Gaps LLC,
where he helps others take their ideas and businesses to the global audience we
refer to as the Web. Like all good Web marketers, he asks that you look out for
his book as soon as he gets around to writing one.
Renee Menkova - Moderator
Renee
Menkova has more than ten years of experience building online marketing
campaigns and developing websites. An accomplished online strategist and
marketer, her expertise contributed to notable revenue improvements and cost
savings. She is the Director of Internet Strategy for Rasmussen College and
leads a team of online marketers and web developers. She works to integrate
online tools and industry best practices to develop new online marketing
campaigns. Her online expertise ranges from all aspects of SEM including SEO,
PPC, social media, ad networks to website analytics and reporting.
